Chainsaw Warrior App Reviews

Boring

Graphics are great but unfortunately the game play is just plain boring - not worth the price at all

Peter

I enjoy this game, good nostalgia from the days when games workshop games were at game shops. Traces of warhammer 40k in this game. For $5.00 it is a great buy

Barely playable

I was a huge CW fan when it came out but Ive but nothing but frustrated and disappointed by this implementation. The interface is terrible, forcing multiple clicks for just about everything and wasting huge amounts of screen space on nothing. Equipment is largely unused, possibly due to bugs or just the poor interface making it impossible to figure out how to wear the clothing you receive. Considering the price, I would avoid this title like the plague.

simple, archaic game with a BAD interface

Dont buy this unless you are nostalgic for the original version. This adaptation is very clumsy. It takes about four taps to attack an enemy when it should only take one.

Accurate and awesome

Pure classic! Keep it up guys!

Fun

Ive loved GW games since I was younger. Its awesome to see the recent resurgence of their games, now if someone could come out with an adequate take on WH40k, Fantasy, GorkaMorka Id be stoked. Anyhow this quite entertaining, I never played the original but I can see myself coming back to play a round every now and again. I like these types of games Necronomicon, Talisman and now this. Its pricey but if you got the cash to spare I can only imagine the physical edition costs more.

Fun, but it destroys my battery

Im an old school gamer, so I enjoy the gameplay. I cant play it for long, as it drains the battery rapidly. This morning, with CW as the only open app, I went from 20% battery to forced shutdown in 10 minutes: so fast that my iPhone 4s didnt even warn me I was at 5%. This seems to be a known issue, as Auroch Digitals Web site says the games graphics and animations can be pretty demanding. They recommend quitting all other applications and playing either with a full battery or while plugged in. This is an unrealistic recommendation, and I dont think the games presentation warrants such excessive battery usage.

A Little Disappointed

First of all... No retina support? You have got to be kidding. Another note: for best experience, take time to read the cards. Dont just blast through the room cards. What made the original game great was the tense, palpable atmosphere created by the element of the "unknown," by the time restriction, and and by the moody artwork. I am pleased to see that it retains the original card artwork (for the enemies, at least). The opening animation is underwhelming. The voice acting is mediocre. I am not sure I like the way the game automatically determines radiation damage, zombie venom, etc. without showing the dice roll. I imagine this is really confusing to new players - "why is the venom marker advancing now, but it didnt when I fought those other two zombies earlier?" The only reason I understand what is happening "behind the scenes" is because I own the board game... I also think the use of space in the design of this app is a little wasteful. I am playing on an iPad but it seems to me that the cards are far bigger than necessary, and the item purchasing screen/item equip screen would be far easier to understand and read if the cards were smaller and presented all at once, in a grid-style fashion or something. The bar at the top is wonderful, though. The countdown timer and the stats (and the way the modifiers are presented!) are all wonderful. So am I glad I bought it? I am not sure yet. I dont miss reshuffling sleeved cards all the time (escaping the building... What a pain when playing the board game!), but the wasted space in this app feels sort of clunky. I have this nagging feeling that I am not seeing everything that is going on. Ill probably play this but only because of the convenience. My love is still for the board game. I like rolling real dice... Flipping real cards... This is, to me, no substitute for the board game, but hey - at least its something! :) Its not a bad representation of the board game. Certainly not what I was hoping it would be, but its all right. Worth your time if you are curious about the original board game and arent expecting first person hack n slash action.

Garbage

States in the description that it is compatible with all iPads but it fail miserably on the original iPad; I understand that many apps are no longer viable with my ancient iPad but then state it in the compatibility section instead of taking my $5.00. A friend has stated that it also crashes on the iPad 2; another strike against this dev. Fix your mistakes!!

Great fun

I must be old school. This game is a blast. Half the fun is trying to make it through with what youve been dealt. For this reason Id recommend only going with the classic mode for the true experience. Not as difficult as a rogue-like, just bite the bullet and give it your best shot.

A blast from the past.

Here is a perfect example of a good but obscure older board game which really shines once all the bookkeeping is handled electronically. Quick and tense, with just enough choices to keep you engaged, Chainsaw Warrior is still great fun after repeated plays. I am thankful to see see this oldie-but-goodie taken from my dusty game shelf and brought to my screen with all its retro charm intact.

Unplayable

Crashes CONSTANTLY on iPad 1 with iOS 4.3. Seems to happen randomly. I havent been able to even play one turn of the game it is so bad.

Good but reviews are true

I am a big fan of single player board games, and had never played this before. Figured i would try it despite the reviews. But this game is confusing at times and it seems unacceptable. The hidden rolls are confusing and should be shown (hidden rooms) The reload and clip mechanics are never explained and I dont get it... I made through a building which reshuffled my deck 1 and has me start over? I wish time use was better explained. Finally in the middle of my game I "closed" the app and later found my game not there when restarted app. Lots of potential but needs work. Expected more from game works.

DOES NOT WORK ON IPOD TOUCH 4

I have an ipod touch 4th gen. This game crashes whenever I try to start a new game. Im trying to get my money back.

New Update Crashes

Loved it until the new update caused it to crash and become unplayable.

Ios 6

It crashes FIX IT

Complete junk.

Crashes before you can start playing. iPhone 5

Crashes

Crashes immediately after cutscene intro. Ive never been able to get to the gameplay. I have the most recent update on an iphone 4. This shouldnt be happening with a $5 game.

Chainsaw Warrior

I bought the original board game way back when. This is an exact electronic version of it, crazy low chance of winning and all. Gives a real sense of accomplishment when you do beat it on Hard mode.

Could there be a battery drain?

-> Update Though not stated specifically in the update notes, the battery drain is much better, at least on the iPad2. Thus, my rating is now 5 as promised. This game is great fun if you go in knowing how the actual board game plays. As with most of these apps Id never played the board game. I understand its based on dice so luck is a big part but so what, look how popular Las Vegas is! Anyway, its fun and keeps you locked in, wanting to challenge that next card. I gave it a 4 instead of 5 because one time I played my iPad2 battery went down almost 1% per minute. Now I just played and it wasnt so bad, 2% in 10 min. However, I think there is a battery drain problem and will rate it 5 if this is addressed in a future update. BTW, there are no background processes running while playing the game. Thanks Also, please fix the app icon display name on the iPad home screen. You are limited to 13 characters so yours comes out Chains...arrior. Looks goofy. Try Chainsaw War or some such.
